Good To Know
Blueberries are rich in antioxidants, especially flavonoids, which have been linked to improved cognitive function and memory. Additionally, these antioxidants help lower inflammation and oxidative stress, promoting overall brain health.
What do you get when you mix a brain and plain yogurt? A match made in heaven! The probiotics in yogurt are like tiny superheroes that fight off bad bacteria and reduce inflammation, while the protein gives the brain the energy it needs to think like a genius.
Plain or Greek yogurt is a rich source of protein, which is essential for the production of neurotransmitters that support cognitive function and mental clarity. Additionally, yogurt contains probiotics that can promote gut health, leading to potential indirect benefits for brain health through the gut-brain axis.
Coconut flakes contain medium-chain triglycerides that are easily converted into ketones, providing a quick and efficient energy source for the brain. Ketones have been associated with improved cognitive function and may offer neuroprotective benefits.
Substitutions
There are many options to replace the yogurt with:
- Soft tofu – also a source of protein
- Plant-based milk – depending on the milk, the result will have different degrees of creaminess and different amount of protein
- Avocado – for healthy fats
- Coconut water – the result won’t be as creamy, but it will still be delicious
- Cottage cheese – also a source of protein
Make it
Gluten free – this recipe is gluten free.
Dairy free – replace the dairy yogurt with vegan yogurt, coconut water, or plant based milk.
Vegan – replace the dairy yogurt with vegan yogurt, coconut water, or plant based milk. Have a look a “substitutions” for more options.
Extra health points
I like adding many toppings to my smoothie for more nutrition and crunch. I usually eat the smoothie with a spoon, so it’s easy to pack in more goodness. Today I added pecans and fresh berries.
You can add your favourite toppings: other types of nuts (chopped almonds, walnuts, pistachios), seeds (hemp, sunflower, chia, flax), granola, cacao nibs, nut butter, edible flowers, cinnamon, cocoa powder, mint, citrus zest (lime, orange, lemon).
Storing and freezing tips
Store
Store in the fridge for up to 24 h in an air-tight container.
Freeze
I don’t like freezing smoothies because I find that they lose some of their flavour and texture, but some people get good results from freezing smoothies. Freezing is great for prepping ahead and enjoying them later, so try it out and decide for yourself if freezing is something you enjoy.

Notes
I like using at least one frozen fruit in my smoothies so I can enjoy it right away. Otherwise I have to wait until it’s chilled in the fridge.
Feel free to use your favourite yogurt. I prefer to use Greek yogurt because it has a lower sugar content and a higher protein content. The smoothie will still be sweet thanks to the delicious fruits.

Be creative with your toppings. I like adding nuts for a crunchy texture because I usually eat the smoothie with a spoon. For topping ideas, check out the extra health points section above. Happy blending!
